Off weekend for Hayden – Bronze Medal for Henry

Posted by: Paul Rak |

It was an off weekend for Monster Energy/Yamaha USA/OTSFF Racing’s Iain Hayden at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado, which were held on January 28-31.

Although everything went well for Hayden during practice and dialling in his 4-stroke Yamaha FX Nytro®, things went far less favourably in the qualifying heats.

In the first heat, Hayden got a terrible start that left him at the back of the pack in a field of 12 riders. Anxious to make up time as quickly as possible, he aggressively worked his way towards the front. Hayden was making nice headway but on the third lap, while passing another rider on the outside, he caught his ski on an ice edge and was pitched off his sled.

Podium for Hayden in Lindsay

Posted by: Paul Rak |

Team Monster Energy-Yamaha-OTSFF Racing’s Iain Hayden continues to lead the CSRA Pro Open Snowcross Championship, after recording a noteworthy second place finish at Round 2 of the points chase this past weekend in Lindsay, Ontario.

After racing a double-header at Eagle River, WI in the United States the week before, things were a little more relaxed for Hayden and the team as they raced back on home soil.

Hayden arrived at the Lindsay Exhibition Grounds to contest the Amsoil® Kawartha Cup with a slim three point lead in the title hunt. When all was said and done, he finished in the top-two in all three races and stretched his lead to a more comfortable 10 points.

In his first full season on the Canadian circuit since 2007, Hayden is on solid footing to add another CSRA championship title to his laurels. He basically did what he had to do and that’s to keep adding double-digit points to his lead. The Espanola, ON native took his four-stroke Yamaha FX Nytro® to a second place finish in his first qualifying heat, a win in the second heat, and runner-up in the final.

Whistler’s Partysnake Again? Premiere Recap

Posted by: Paul Rak |

Whistler, B.C., Canada
January 14th, 2010

When you combine both Whistler’s snowboard scene with Vancouver’s notorious Partysnake crew and put them into a great venue like Buffalo Bills Bar, you are bound to have a ground shaking experience.

Partysnake Again? is the second of two Vancouver based films that showcase the antics and shredding of some of Mount Seymour’s liveliest contributors. The Partysnakes’ presence is unmistakably legendary. When you walk into a party featuring the Snakes you will notice there is no party like it; fasten your seatbelts. Buffalo Bills Bar had no problem filling their establishment with wall-to-wall partiers. With outstanding DJing from the Eh Teams DJs, featuring DJ ILLO and HEDSPIN, the night was rocking all night long.

Partysnake has definitely made an impression on the Whistler scene; but even more so now, it has become one of the most talked about movies of the year. One has to wonder if perhaps the Partysnake himself, and his venomous bite, has something to do with it.

I grew up in West Vancouver and moved to Whistler in 1997. It was a great experience growing up on the North Shore during that time as it gained international attention in the mountain bike world. I helped my youngest brother and his friends build a trail called Roach Hit on Cypress Mountain. It was not one of the first trails on the mountainside but it is known as a classic today.

Roach Hit was an effort to combine shore style stunts with sections of downhill racing flow an effort to add speed to the classic North Shore style of trail building. Roach Hit still exists; the sign and the stunts have long been destroyed but the line remains. I watched as Wade Simmons went from being a bike mechanic in Deep Cove, known as one of the best riders on the Shore by reputation alone, to becoming the godfather of free ride mountain biking. I was there for Thomas Vanderham’s first days filming for Cranked 5 on Cypress, on a bike he had purchased off of Andrew Shandro (also a North Shore legend). I’ve been lucky enough to have had a few first hand experiences in the history of the North Shore and now I feel like we’re creating a new piece to the story with Sam and Thomas’ North Shore segment for ‘Follow Me’.

Monster Energy Canada signs Professional Snowboarder Mark Sollors.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Vancouver, B.C. Canada (Jan. 4, 2010)

Monster Energy Canada is pleased to announce the addition of snowboarder Mark Sollors to our team. This hardworking BC native, known for his ability to attack any terrain with equal skill, has been on a steady rise in recent years. Coming off of a strong year and featured in videos such as Burton’s “The B” and Variety Pack’s “Not Bad”, Mark rounded out his year by winning the Boost Mobile “SnoSho” Big air in Australia this past August.

Burton teammate Jeremy Jones says of Mark:

"Mark is obviously ripping or I wouldn't be writing this quote.  A bit sensitive when you dis his music (hence the nickname “Crypod”), but when he is done pouting in the corner, homie is blasting a 1080 every way over hundred foot kickers and tearing apart the street scene.  The saying runs true... “Shut up and Shred” with this kid."

As a member of the Burton team, Sollors has a very busy winter traveling and filming and shooting around North America and the world and will be one to watch in the coming years. Mark is very exited to be a part of the Monster Energy team and is looking forward to being a part of one the sickest lineups in snowboarding.

Canadian Arenacross Championship Round 5

Canadian Arenacross Championship Round 5
Chilliwack, B.C., Canada
Dec. 19th, 2009

This Dec.19th was the one evening event of the Nex Trax Canadian Arenacross Championships. Usually a two evening double-header, the racers only had one night to show their skills. The Chilliwack Heritage Park was once again the stage for this action packed night.

MX2 Main: Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki athlete Brock Hoyer rode his best, as the last Arenacross of the 2009-year brought out more American riders then before. Brock charged hard taking the podium in 3rd place. His teammate Brady Sheren rode his KXF250 to an unfortunate 7th. Brady, a Supercross veteran, is hoping to bounce back for the final two rounds in January.

Open Main: The Open was again a struggle for the Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki Team. Brock did get a good start but was slowly pushed back just missing the podium in 4th place. However, still leaving himself in the hunt for the Championship. Brady Sheren finished again in 7th.

Teammate Kris Foster had a crash in qualifying and with a swollen wrist pushed threw to finish 8th in the Lites and 9th in the Open.

As the Nex Trax Canadian Arenacross Championships slowly comes to an end, the Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki Team will be striving to push their limits in the last two rounds on Jan. 8th and 9th 2010.
