St-Thecle was new ground for everyone on the National tour and many were exited to show their skills on virgin territory. Unfortunately Mother Nature decided to play games and teased us with nimbus clouds that eventually turned St-Thecle into the mud race of the season.
The fierce muddy conditions forced officials to reduce the event to one moto per class. It was a fight for survival. Tearoffs where almost useless as riders tried to keep it on two wheels for what seemed to be the longest mud moto ever.
MX2 - Leading Edge Kawasaki’s Brock Hoyer and Nick Evennou both had a great start and held their positions. After two laps the riders where so caked with mud it was difficult to follow who was in the lead. In the end both Brock and Nick finished on the podium with Brock Hoyer earning 2nd and his first podium on the National tour. Nick Evennou placed 3rd with Teddy Maier, who is still leading the overall standings, finishing 6th.
MX1 – A tough day for the Cernic’s team. Mud conditions are the most unpredictable to race in. As the gate dropped and the mud slashes settled both Paul and Jack Carpenter found themselves at the back of the pack. A few laps later, Paul was still charging. A goggle-less Paul put himself into 9th. During all this, Bobby Kiniry had a decent start and kept it going to finish in 6th. Jack had a DNF.
A mud race makes it difficult to judge a rider’s talent but it’s a good indicator of character. Hopefully the weather will be on our side as we continue to our furthest east location at RiverGlade MX Park in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.
